Harold looked at the clock on the dash of his car. He did some quick math and figured that he’d be pulling into Lucinda’s driveway somewhere between seven and eight O’clock in the morning.

Hopefully, she was ready for them.

Stanard sat down with officer Cooper to go over all of the evidence from the crime scene. He still had Lucinda very much in the front of his thoughts.

It was all he could do to concentrate on what Cooper was telling him.

“Can you say that again?” He asked his young officer to repeat the last snippet of information he’d relayed. “Did I hear you correctly?”

“You sure did,” Cooper nodded. “The body parts that we found on the boardwalk weren’t human.”

“So, what were they?”

“Well, we’re not a hundred percent sure, but we’re leaning toward pig.”

Stanard shook his head.

“What do you mean?”

Cooper shrugged. “I don’t know what you want me to say, sir. They aren’t from a man or a woman. They were bloody and mangled and that’s probably what scared that young couple. But they were definitely from some sort of animal.”

“I don’t understand,” Stanard said, looking at the bags of mangled animal parts in front of him. “Why would someone put animal body parts on our boardwalk? And if it was the same guy that attacked Lucinda, why would he do that? This just doesn’t make sense.”

“Welcome to life in this new world,” Cooper nodded. “People are some of the strangest creatures ever created.”

Stanard nodded. “You know, Cooper, in some strange way, that’s the only thing I’ve heard tonight that makes any sense at all.”
